英语词汇语义的认知机制——概念转喻视角述

摘要:
传统词汇语义研究将词义扩展的原因更多地归咎于历史因素和社会因素。历史因素和社会因素是词义变化的重要因素,但它们只是外部因素。词汇语义认知研究认为,词汇在很大程度上是有理据的,而不是任意性的,也不可能独立于人类的认知和体验之外。词义发展和变化的内因来源于人类的认知思维,概念转喻是词汇意义扩展的认知机制之一。概念转喻涉及的是“邻近”和“突显”原则,“邻近”常常引发词义的转移,“突显”则会引起词义的扩大或缩小。

Cognitive Mechanism of English Lexical Meaning——The Perspective of Conceptual Metonymy

Abstract:
Historical and social factors are considered as the main reasons for the development of lexical meaning in the traditional study, but they are only external factors. Actually, the development of lexical meaning is motivated, instead of being arbitrary and independent of human beings’ cognition and experience. Conceptual metonymy, as one of people’s cognitive ways of thinking, is one of the approaches to and the internal factors for the development of lexical meaning. Conceptual metonymy is concerned with the principles of contiguity and salience, resulting in the transfer, extension and narrowing of lexical meaning.
